Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Basic Apps ("we", "us", "our") operates the following applications: Basic Checkbook, Ink, Basic Intake, Drift, Basic Fidgit, Basic Bins, and Basic Deck (collectively, the "Apps"). Ink is available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS; Basic Deck is a macOS app; the others are iOS only. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information across all of the Apps.

By using any of our Apps, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of our Apps.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Financial data Checkbook, Account names, balances, and transactions stored locally via SwiftData and automatically synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. Never transmitted to our servers.
• Passcode Checkbook, You may set an optional local passcode, stored in your device Keychain, with optional Face ID / Touch ID unlock. No name, email, or account identity is collected.
• Supplement data Intake, Names, dosages, timing, notes, intake logs, and effect reviews. Stored locally and automatically synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. When you use AI features, the relevant details pass through a Basic Apps server, which does not keep a copy, to Anthropic's Claude API.
• Health profile Intake, General health information (age, sex, goals, exercise, diet and dietary restrictions, sleep, sun exposure, conditions, medications, and any bloodwork deficiencies you enter), used for personalized AI suggestions. Stored locally, automatically synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit, and the relevant details are sent to Anthropic's Claude API when generating suggestions. If you use the setup conversation, it may also ask whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and Basic Intake sends each answer you type to Anthropic's Claude API as you give it.
• Lab report imports Intake, You can import a lab report as a PDF. Basic Intake extracts the report's text on your device, using text recognition for scanned pages, and sends that text to Anthropic's Claude API to read your biomarkers (such as vitamin D, B12, ferritin, and cholesterol). The app then tracks each value against its reference range. The report file itself is not uploaded. The text can include personal identifiers printed on the report, such as your name and date of birth, so review what you import. The values read from your reports, and your earlier results for the same markers, are also sent to Anthropic's Claude API with each message you send the AI advisor (along with the dates they were drawn), when you run Review My Stack, and when Basic Intake checks a newly added supplement for interactions.
• AI assistant messages and label photos Intake, Your chat messages, nutrient queries, and photos of supplement labels you capture are transmitted to Anthropic's Claude API (including its vision model, to read label photos) to generate responses. We do not store them on our servers. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Apple Health data Intake, With your permission, the app reads sleep, activity (steps, active energy, and workouts), and body metrics (resting heart rate, heart rate variability, VO2 max, and body weight) from Apple Health, and writes your supplement-intake logs, and any weight you log in the app, back to Apple Health. A summary of this data (roughly the past 30 days), including those metrics, may be sent to Anthropic's Claude API to personalize suggestions. Apple Health data is managed by Apple; we do not store it on our servers.
• Caregiver and pet data Intake, If you use caregiver mode, the profiles, medications, supplements, doses, and purposes you record for the people or pets you care for are stored locally and synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. When you use the caregiver assistant, Basic Intake sends Anthropic's Claude API the name you gave that person or pet and their list (each item's name, dose, timing, schedule, and what it is for), along with your messages. This information stays private to you and is never shared with other users.
• Mood and daily check-in Intake, Your daily mood and energy check-ins, and your weight entries if you track your weight, are stored locally and synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. When you use AI features, they may be sent to Anthropic's Claude API with your other details, along with your weight goal. Starting with version 6.2, mood and energy are sent only while the daily check-in is on, and weight only while weight tracking is on.
• Automatic AI checks Intake, Basic Intake also sends some details to Anthropic's Claude API without a separate tap. When a supplement has no nutrient estimate yet, the app sends its name and dose so the AI can estimate its nutrients. If you have Basic Intake Pro or are in your free week of Pro, the Interaction Heads-Up check runs when you add a supplement, and on a new device for supplements that device has not checked yet. It sends your active supplements with their doses, timing, and how often you took them in the last 30 days, the effect rating you gave each one, your average mood and energy, up to 20 recent lab values, and your health profile. You can turn off Interaction Heads-Up in Settings. In version 6.2 and later, neither check runs until you allow AI Features.
• AI consent Intake, In version 6.2 and later, Basic Intake asks your permission before it sends anything to Anthropic, and lists what it sends. You can turn off AI Features in Basic Intake's Settings at any time. The app then stops sending your data to Anthropic, and results already in the app stay. Turning AI Features off does not recall data Anthropic has already received. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Notes, lists, and rich-text content Ink, All text you write or dictate, stored locally and synced to your personal iCloud account via NSFileCoordinator. Never transmitted to our servers.
• Spotlight search index Ink, So your pages turn up in system search, Ink adds your note and list titles, a short preview, and keywords to Apple's on-device Spotlight index. That index stays on your device and is managed by Apple. No note content is sent to our servers.
• Siri, Shortcuts, and the Action Button Ink, Ink works with Siri voice commands, the Shortcuts app, and the Action Button. Apple handles these on your device and passes only the resulting action to Ink. No audio or content is sent to our servers.
• Voice dictation audio Ink, Speech-to-text uses Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer, which may process audio on-device or on Apple's servers under Apple's terms. Ink itself does not record, retain, or transmit your audio.
• Dictation transcripts sent for AI structuring Ink, When you opt to use the AI editor, the transcribed text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to be shaped into structured notes. We do not store these transcripts on our servers. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Today page suggestions Ink, When AI features are enabled, Ink automatically sends a small amount of context (your active list titles, recent note titles, shelf names, and due-item counts) to Anthropic's Claude API to generate the editorial subhead on the Today screen. This runs automatically when you open that screen, without a separate action. We do not store it on our servers.
• Shared lists Ink, When you share a list, that list and its items are stored in a private iCloud share via Apple CloudKit and made available to the people you invite to view and edit. Only the lists you choose to share leave your private storage; the rest stay private to you. Participants can see your name in the list's roster, and you can see theirs. Never transmitted to our servers.
• Mood selections Drift, Stored locally via SwiftData and automatically synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. Never transmitted to our servers.
• Session history and preferences Drift, Experience type, duration, completion status, and your app settings and favorites are stored locally via SwiftData and automatically synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit.
• Fidget interaction preferences Fidgit, Sound and haptic settings, favorite fidgets, per-fidget usage counts, and trial/purchase state, all stored locally via UserDefaults. Never transmitted to any server.
• Deck layout and settings Deck, Your tiles, pages, grid size, and preferences are stored locally on your Mac, with rotating local backups. Never transmitted to our servers.
• Purchase and license details Deck, Basic Deck is sold directly from our website rather than through the App Store. Payment is processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number. The email address you provide at checkout is used to deliver your license key and for license support. When you activate, your license key and a device identifier are checked by our licensing service to enforce the 2-Mac limit.
• Update checks Deck, The app periodically checks our update feed so it can offer new versions. No personal data is included in these checks.
• Your inventory Bins, The locations, boxes, and items you create, including names, box types, quantities, and notes. Stored on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. Never stored on our servers.
• Item and location photos Bins, Photos you take of your items and locations are stored on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account. When you use AI naming, that single item photo is sent through a Basic Apps service to Anthropic's Claude to read what it shows and suggest a name. We do not keep the photo, and Anthropic handles it under the terms described in Section 11. You can rename anything by hand instead.
• Check-out records Bins, If you check an item out of a box, Bins records that it is out, who has it, and when it left, on your device and in your iCloud.
• Household sharing Bins, If you share your library, Apple CloudKit sharing gives the people you invite access to its locations, boxes, items, and photos, and records who added or changed something. Invitations are tied to an Apple Account. If you invite someone by email, the address you enter is passed to our email provider to deliver that one invitation and is not kept for anything else.
• Feedback submissions Checkbook Ink Intake Drift Fidgit, Category and the message you type. For Ink and Drift, basic diagnostic details (app version, device model, and OS version) are also included to help triage reports. The apps attach no other data, but your message goes exactly as you write it, so leave out health or other details you do not want to share.

Information Collected Automatically

• Subscription status, Apple processes all App Store purchases. When you use AI features in Basic Intake or Ink, the app sends your App Store receipt with each request. Our AI server checks it with Apple and keeps the result for 24 hours: the app version you first installed, when you first downloaded the app, whether your subscription is active, and, if you subscribe, the subscription's product, original transaction ID, and expiry date. Basic Deck purchases are processed by Stripe instead, as described above. We never receive or store your payment card information.
• App usage counts Intake, Basic Intake counts your AI requests on your device, and our AI server keeps its own counts to enforce usage limits. For subscribers, the server keeps a count for each month, filed under your App Store subscription's original transaction ID. During the free week of Pro, it keeps a running count filed under a code made from details in your App Store receipt and the day it started, plus a record of the start date that it deletes after 7 days. The counts hold only numbers of requests, never message content. We do not delete the counts on a schedule. To have yours deleted, email us at [email protected].

Device Permissions

• Face ID / Touch ID Checkbook Ink, Used for app unlock only (App Lock in Ink). Biometric data is handled entirely by Apple and is never accessed by us.
• Camera / Photo Library Checkbook Intake Bins, Optional. In Checkbook, used to scan receipts and checks to auto-fill transactions (read on-device by Apple Vision), to attach receipt photos, and to set a bank-account logo; receipt photos are stored in your app data and sync to your personal iCloud account. In Intake, used to scan supplement barcodes and to photograph labels (label photos are sent to Anthropic's Claude vision API to read them). In Bins, used to photograph the items you are putting away and your locations, and to scan a box QR label.
• Photo Library (add only) Drift, Optional, used to save a shareable drift-moment video loop to your Photos. No photos are read from your library.
• Notifications Checkbook Intake Drift, Used for local reminders (bill and scheduled-transaction reminders in Checkbook; supplement reminders in Intake; calm-break reminders in Drift), scheduled on-device. Intake also relies on Apple's CloudKit push for background iCloud sync.
• Microphone / Speech Recognition Ink, Required for voice dictation. Speech-to-text uses Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer, which may process audio on-device or on Apple's servers under Apple's Speech Recognition terms. Ink itself does not record, store, or transmit your audio.
• Location (when in use) Ink, Optional, used to show local weather and moon phase on the Today screen. Your coordinates are sent only to Apple WeatherKit and are not stored by us.
• Haptics Drift Fidgit, Tactile feedback during sessions and fidget interactions. No data is collected.
• Audio Drift Fidgit, Soundscape playback and fidget sound effects. On-device only, no recording occurs.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

• Provide and operate each App's core features
• Generate AI-powered supplement suggestions via the Claude API Intake
• Structure dictated speech into notes via the Claude API Ink
• Read and write Apple Health data with your permission Intake
• Verify subscription status through Apple's App Store
• Send local reminder notifications Intake
• Track daily session counts Drift
• Respond to user feedback and improve our Apps

We Do NOT:

• Sell your personal information to any third party
• Share your financial, health, mood, session, or note content with third parties, except: content our Apps send to Anthropic's Claude API (Basic Intake assistant chats, label photos, your health profile, Apple Health summaries, daily check-ins and weight entries, lab-report text and the values read from it, your supplement stack and effect reviews, and caregiver lists; Bins item photos sent for naming; Ink dictation transcripts and Today-page context), and the limited third-party services listed in Section 6
• Use your data for advertising or marketing purposes
• Track you across apps or websites

5. Data Storage and Security

Personal data is stored locally on your device using Apple frameworks appropriate to each app: SwiftData (Checkbook, Intake, Drift), file-based iCloud documents (Ink), UserDefaults (Fidgit), and local files on your Mac (Deck). Aside from the AI proxy described below, we do not operate servers that store your personal data. Data at rest is protected by your device's hardware encryption.

• iCloud sync Checkbook Intake Drift, Your data automatically syncs to your personal iCloud account via Apple CloudKit whenever you are signed into iCloud. This is standard for all users, free or paid, with no separate subscription gate or enable toggle. Synced data is stored in your personal iCloud account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We cannot access your iCloud data.
• iCloud document storage Ink, Notes are written to your personal iCloud ubiquity container via NSFileCoordinator. Files are stored in your iCloud account, encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We never see or access your notes.
• Shared list storage Ink, Lists you share are stored in a private CloudKit share within your iCloud account and the accounts of the people you invite. You can see who has access, remove a person, or stop sharing at any time from the list itself, which ends their access. We never see or access your shared lists.
• AI requests Intake Ink, AI requests are sent over HTTPS to a Basic Apps-operated proxy (a Cloudflare Worker) that validates your subscription (using your App Store receipt, a trial token, and an Apple device-check token) and then forwards the request to Anthropic's Claude API. The proxy routes and rate-limits requests but does not retain your message content. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps a technical log of each AI request for us and deletes it within 7 days. An entry can include the time, your IP address, the approximate location Cloudflare works out from it (city, postal code, and map coordinates), your internet provider, your app and operating system version, and the App Store receipt the app sends, which shows your App Store purchase details. During a free trial, it can also show the date the trial started. The log does not include your messages, photos, or health details. We use it only to run, secure, and fix the service. In Basic Intake 6.2 and later, turning off AI Features stops these requests.
• Soundscape content Drift, Streamed from a Basic Apps-managed CloudKit database. These are public assets only; no personal data is associated with playback.

• Apple App Store / StoreKit, Subscription payment processing. Apple's Privacy Policy applies.
• iCloud / CloudKit / Ubiquity Container Checkbook Ink Intake Drift, Apple's Privacy Policy applies.
• Anthropic Claude API Intake Ink Bins, The AI assistant, setup conversation, supplement-label photo reading (vision), lab report reading, nutrient estimates, interaction checks, and Review My Stack in Basic Intake; dictation structuring in Ink; and naming the items you photograph in Bins. Anthropic's Privacy Policy applies.
• Apple Speech Recognition Ink, Speech-to-text via SFSpeechRecognizer (may run on-device or on Apple's servers). Apple's Privacy Policy applies.
• Basic Apps AI proxy (Cloudflare) Intake Ink, A Basic Apps-operated Cloudflare Worker that validates your subscription and forwards AI requests to Anthropic's Claude API. Cloudflare also stores the proxy's request logs for us for up to 7 days. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
• Apple WeatherKit Ink, Provides local weather and moon phase; your coordinates are sent to Apple only for this. Apple's Privacy Policy applies.
• Open Food Facts Intake, Barcode product lookup. The app sends only the scanned barcode number, directly from your device, so Open Food Facts also sees your IP address. See Open Food Facts' Privacy Policy.
• Bank logo lookup Checkbook, Clearbit, Google (favicon service), and DuckDuckGo. When you look up a bank logo by website, that bank's domain is sent to fetch an icon. No account, balance, or transaction data is sent.
• Stripe Deck, Payment processing for Basic Deck purchases. Your card details go to Stripe, never to us. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• Keygen Deck, License management for Basic Deck. Stores your license key, the email it was issued to, and activated device identifiers to enforce the 2-Mac limit. See Keygen's Privacy Policy.
• Resend Deck, Delivers your Basic Deck license key email after checkout. See Resend's Privacy Policy.
• Brevo Bins, Delivers a household sharing invitation when you choose to invite someone by email. The address you enter is used to send that message and nothing else. See Brevo's Privacy Policy.
• Formspree Checkbook Ink Intake Drift Fidgit, Feedback form delivery service. It receives what you submit, along with your IP address, and passes it to us. Formspree's Privacy Policy applies.

We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash reporting services. The only data that leaves your device is the content our Apps send to Anthropic's Claude (Basic Intake assistant chats, label photos, your health profile, Apple Health summaries, daily check-ins and weight entries, lab-report text and the values read from it, your supplement stack and effect reviews, and caregiver lists; Bins item photos sent for naming; Ink dictation transcripts and Today-page context), the limited lookups above (barcode numbers, bank domains, and weather coordinates), the App Store receipt and tokens our AI server uses to check your subscription, and the feedback you submit through Formspree. For Basic Deck, add your checkout details (Stripe), license activation (Keygen), the license email (Resend), and update checks. Everything else stays on your device or in your personal iCloud account.

7. Children's Privacy

Our Apps are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

8. Your Rights and Choices

• Access, View all your data within each App at any time. Premium Checkbook users can export financial data to CSV.
• Deletion, Deleting an App permanently removes the data it stores on your device. For Basic Intake, the entries the app wrote to Apple Health stay in Health until you delete them in the Health app, and the usage counts on our AI server stay until you ask us to delete them. For iCloud data, go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
• Notifications, Disable reminders in the App's settings or via iPhone Settings → Notifications.
• Subscriptions, Manage or cancel subscriptions via iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
• AI features Intake, In version 6.2 and later, withdraw your consent at any time by turning off AI Features in Basic Intake's Settings. The app stops sending your data to Anthropic, and results already in the app stay.

9. California Privacy Rights

We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents have the right to know what personal information we handle, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Because your data lives on your device and in your personal iCloud account, you can exercise most of these rights directly (see "Your Rights and Choices" above) or by emailing [email protected].

10. International Users

Our Apps are operated from the United States. If you use the AI features in Basic Intake or Ink, the content you send is processed by Anthropic in the United States, and any iCloud data is handled by Apple. If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data; most of this can be done on your device or through your iCloud account, and you may also contact us at [email protected].

11. Data Retention

Your data remains on your device and in your personal iCloud account for as long as you keep the App installed or choose to keep the data. Deleting an App removes its locally stored data, and you can remove iCloud data through your iCloud settings. Basic Intake stores your saved Review My Stack result on your device and in your personal iCloud. It deletes the result when you run a new review, or the next time you open your supplement list in Basic Intake after the result is 30 days old.

Under Anthropic's current terms, it deletes the content our Apps send to its API within 30 days, unless it needs to keep it longer to enforce its usage policies or to comply with the law. It can keep content it flags for a policy violation for up to 2 years. We do not keep our own copies. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Formspree stores the feedback you send under its own terms and passes it to us. We keep it only as long as we need it to answer you and improve the Apps.

Our AI server's request logs are deleted within 7 days. Our AI server keeps the usage counts described in Section 2 until you ask us to delete them. In the event of a data breach affecting information we can access, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of our Apps after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
